PresbyopiaPresbyopia occurs in all adults approximately 45 years or older. Presbyopia is a natural ageing process of the lens inside the eye. This means that distance vision will be unchanged, but near vision will become blurry. Hence, most people will need to wear reading glasses or bifocals when they reach their mid-forties. People who are short-sighted may be unaffected by the symptoms of presbyopia, so, they will be able to avoid or delay the need for reading glasses when they reach their mid-forties. However, people who have had 'perfect vision' throughout their life, and people who are long-sighted, will suffer from the symptoms of presbyopia when they reach their mid-forties. Apart from wearing reading glasses or bifocals, presbyopia can be corrected by using an optical technique called Monovision.
