Vision Solutions - In Your 60s

You probably don't realise that laser vision correction in your 60s is possible and has much to offer.

If you are:
  • sick of wearing glasses with bifocal or multifocal lenses, or
  • are spending much of your day getting frustrated by the need to put on and take off your reading glasses
  • then come and talk to us about a corrective lens exchange. We can tailor a vision solution to suit your needs and lifestyle.

At your initial consultation your eyesight will be assessed.  We will also ask you to describe your lifestyle and what you expect from a corrective lens exchange.  Based on the extensive history your surgeon will provide you with an explanation of your options and answer all your questions so you can make an informed decision.

So What is a Corrective Lens Exchange?

A corrective lens exchange procedure provides a way for people in their 60s to be able to see up close, as well as in the distance, without the need to constantly rely on glasses.  This procedure is suitable for people who may have previously been told they are not suitable for laser eye surgery or those that who are just don't want to have to wear reading glasses.

In a corrective lens exchange, the eye's natural lens (the part that ultimately gets cloudy and becomes a cataract) is replaced by an artificial lens (IOL) whose optical prescription is specifically selected to provide sharp vision for the particular eye that is having the procedure.  The term "clear lens exchange" is also used to describe this type of procedure.

There are a number of IOL options available and your surgeon will recommend the IOL most suited to your needs and lifestyle.  While your dependence on glasses for daily activities will be reduced, there may still be occasions where you may need a pair of glasses.  The types of situations where this may occur will be discussed with you at your consultation.

Visual recovery from a corrective lens exchange is, in most cases, quick.  Most people experience minimal discomfort after the procedure with the majority being able to engage in most regular activities the day after surgery.  The benefits of a corrective lens exchange are:

  • highly predictable outcome,
  • fast visual recovery, and
  • low risk of side effects.

  • A corrective lens exchange has a long history of successful outcomes and removes the need for cataract surgery in the future.
